You hear the most fuss about students who illegally share copyrighted music files, but the MPAA is just as hot and bothered about illegal downloading as the RIAA. However, there is a lot of speculation about just how much file sharing hurts the movie industry. Some people say up to 44% of the movie industry’s losses are caused by file sharing. Others say filesharing students may not be to blame and may cause as little as 15% or even only 3% of movie industry losses. Still, downloading movies without paying for them is wrong and you definitely shouldn’t do it. However, I do agree that $10 movie tickets and $20 DVD prices are a bit overblown.
